A terrace that climbs to the roof, a jacuzzi under the Madrid sky and a white interior that forgets itself.
A one-bedroom penthouse on the top floor of a new building in El Viso, and a single architectural idea: that the interior should be the vestibule to the terrace. The living room, kitchen and dining area form one white room with wood-effect porcelain floors, closed by a floor-to-ceiling glass wall that opens fully onto the artificial lawn and the outdoor sofa.
The kitchen, a white run of units with a pale worktop, sits to one side; the wooden table with rattan chairs, in the middle; the grey sofa, looking at the sky. Fully furnished, fully equipped, and with a floor lamp to remind you that it is lovely here at night, too.
The bedroom is deliberately simple: a pale wood bed with a cane headboard, a built-in wardrobe with sliding doors and a round bedside table. The surprise is next door. The bathroom is lined entirely in veined white marble, with a single-piece vanity top, a mirror up to the ceiling and a walk-in shower with a glass screen. It is a hotel bathroom, in a fifth-floor apartment with a lift, garage and storage room.

El Viso is a 1930s colonia of low-rise houses with gardens, tree-lined streets and silence, tucked between the Castellana and María de Molina. From this penthouse you can see its rooftops. Five minutes’ walk away are República Argentina metro station and the schools and clinics of the area; ten minutes away, the Bernabéu and the Azca business district.
It is the kind of address you choose in order to work in the centre and live as if you didn’t.
